Paraountoma cont.

“Hey it’s you! You scared me to my death bed! Hey- Why’s Mentuna’s little sister here?” Madison stared at him like he just spoke dolphin.
“She followed us.” Berdy whispered. They both glanced down at the little girl climbing the stairs of their school, playing on the handrails and singing a song.
“What would Mentuna say? Let alone Adelphia.” Madison asked.
“I thought Mentuna was with you. Oh well obviously not. And Adelphia, you know her she’ll be cool with it. She loves kids.” Berdy rationalized. They both shrugged it off and sat down on the steps, watching Abiba get tired of playing on the stairs and sat next to them, waiting for the others.

Adelphia didn’t run very long. She didn’t think the police would think she was important enough to be followed. She considered going home. But I need to tell Mentuna that I was the one who thought of doing this and that she’s not the one who thought of doing everything!! I swear, she takes credit for everything!! Adelphia kicked a nearby trash can, causing it to rumble and bang onto the ground.
I don’t think you should do that….. Her brain cautioned. Oh really? And why not? Her mind sassed. The cops could be right on your tail! Follow you to the school and ruin your plan!! Her brain warned. WHATEVER! Her mind yelled back and her brain shut up. Wow they have issues… her head thought.
Adelphia knew where she was going. She didn’t go the direction of the school so she was kicking herself for her stupidity. But she was headed towards Lacey’s, just a few blocks from the school. She should be there soon if she turned onto the river trail…. As if hearing the story I’m writing, she sucked her belly so she could squeeze in between the fat pole and the corner of the locked shed; the gate was locked.
The breeze sped up and shoved a handful of golden yellow leaves, now a grey-amber with the moonlight, across her face, gently tickling her, and landed happily on the small wall of cotton and dried leaves bordering the end of the asphalt and outlining the beginning of the sand, leading to the river itself.
